In this chapter titled "Mamallar Oogam" (Mamallar's guess), we see that all the passengers of the pot raft safely reach shore after the raft broke into peices on hitting the rocks and throwing all of them into the flood water. Gundodharan tells Mamallar that the old monk at the budhist monastery in AsokaPuram is not a real monk but a traitor. He also tells Mamallar that he thinks he knows who was the person who asked him to stop fighting with Naganadhi on the banks of the Thiruparkadal lake. Mamallar also thinks that it is King Mahendra Pallava.
