The sixties were years of idealism for the Steel industry. Noted steel plant consultant , Dr Dastur cam back from the states to introduce steel plant consultancy in India. He predicted that India should produce 100 millinon tons by 1980. The young engineers had stars in their eyes and they sought to make India self sufficient in steel . Only Bhilai succeeded in turning these dreams into reality. The life in the townships was marked by a spirit probably never seen before in India. Youth-spirit reigned supreme. Hum-do, Hamare do became the reigning motto at least for the first five years. This episode describes the early pioneer years in the townships.
