Sexual offenders

In response to Ammu's 'Live and let live'

Read the comments below where I and a few others have discussed some of the points that might seem unclear or left unaddressed altogether. I also forgot to mention something in reply to Ammu's complaint about the movue 'Uyir'. She's right in her criticism about the movie, the way the story is carried out - blatantly perverse. But I wanted to point to a few movies which have dealt with similar themes in a much more humanistic and artful way. 'Indru ni naalai nan' (Lakshmi, Sivakumar and others) has a similar story line, but nowhere in the movie do you cringe. It's a movie about human desires that try to break social constraints but in the process don't destroy the humanness itself. So it's not the subject matter that offends me (and many others) but the way it's told. Another example would be the movie 'Fire' and 'Girlfriend'. While they both have elements of homosexuality, the way it's projected on screen makes all the difference. The former was a path breaker the latter is a muck fest.

suresh i have been listening to your film podcasts regularly and i agree with some stereotypical views that you have found in the films.its good.

i think basically todays films are what portrays such incidents to take place because well for the obvious reason people get influenced by them.

however we have to look at two sides of the same coin which is rape or for that matter forced sexuality.

personally i have seen a number of women reacting sharply to this post here on this blog.

Some speak about education others say such people should be shot or even killed and all that.however guessing by the tone of their writings i believe they are entirely female chauvinists(sorry i don't know the correct term).
Once again i have experienced various stories all are true myself.my friend was a very aspiring music director who by gods grace got a chance to compose in a film.however the story was a sad story as soon as he composed everything he got a call and he went to meet the caller a middle aged lady who ordered that he have forced sex with her or he will not see his songs being released.my poor friend was so dejected that he left composing for good and went into academics.

women abusers are also aplenty.for example we see many women teachers in america and India as well were they force students to sex with themselves if they have to pass.infact even some women in high positions often do make men to give them orgasms and sexual pleasure even though men resent it.why take the example of the armies where women soldiers abuse prisoners of war.

therefore women rapists and men rapists exist side by side.Education will definitely not cure this.however we can try all means possible the rest is up to god.

technology has definitely caused the rise of such occurences.to an extent even sudden introduction of unconventional wisdom is sure to be missunderstood by many like for example if a popular celebrity publicly says that pre-marital sex is fine but let it be protective.the media or some political institutions will chance upon it and change the issue like she promotes women to freely have sex thus damaging the reputation.though the celebrity is innocent(in most cases don't agree with innocence especially actress) nevertheless the damage is done and people are influenced.so therefore the human be it male or female is born with inherent limitations.those who feel who are not limited by social standars are limited by other ways.
a very sensitive issue this.my suggestion would be that children must be exposed to family values especially the indian family values and offcourse depends on the family and they must not even be educated about sex.because sex education is treated as a joke these days.i have seen it myself..i believe by proper envionmental and certain religious doctrinal up bringing alone a person can change.

This is My strong opinion.

Well Said
