Finally, the moment of truth.
You know millions upon millions of people have given birth before you and it is not a big deal and yet it is the first time for you! Indeed for most of us this is the first time we are admitted in a hospital as an in-patient! The wise old women in your life have told you that the first birth is a rebirth for the mother – and you realize it is true. Here are some tips on how to survive this experience.

dear PodMommas,

Saw this poem and thought of your show...

enjoy:

Migration

Even though we spent our entire lives
Travelling from one place
to another,
All of our journeys, taken together,
couldn't compete
with the first trip we took,
with microscopic passports,
to the giant land of time and tissue,
and in no known vehicle.
How did we weather
that transworld migration;
nothing travelling through nothing—
or so it would seem,
then suddenly appearing
as a tiny dot of substance
in the biological distance, gradually looking larger?
(Like a plane approaching for a landing,
on a nearby runway,
so we thickened as we came closer,
into shape and form.)

But what exactly
did our bodies wrap themselves around—
ghosts?
Translucent spirals of consciousness?
Invisible particles of desire,
partially assembled?
And of what strange launching
were our births the end result?

Thanks Aparna and Yesha for your comments. Glad you could relate to the show even though you haven't yet gone through the experience. Our next show will feature some exciting birthing stories from guests.

Subsequent to that show, we are planning to spend some time talking about what we took away from these experiences - how to prepare for the delivery (mentally and physically) so novices like yourselves will know 'what to expect' when the time comes.

Again, as someone who has never gone through pregnancy or labour, but have been scared stiff of the latter (unfortunately have a very very low pain threshold level!) - this show was very informative and fun to listen to. However I feel I shall be still be scared stiff until my day comes! Look forward to the next episode.
